Orientation to Acute Care for the SLP

This first-of-its-kind webinar provides the SLP an orientation to acute care. While this course can be beneficial for novice and experienced SLPs alike, it is geared primarily toward SLPs (and students!) who are not familiar with acute care, levels of care, and the SLP's role in this unique healthcare setting. You'll leave the course armed with knowledge about intricacies of acute care, how we SLPs fit in to the picture, a deeper understanding of the importance of discharge planning, and more. You'll be empowered with tips and strategies for succeeding in this challenging-- but extremely rewarding-- fast-paced environment.

What you'll learn

  • Levels of care in the hospital
  • The differences between various states of illness
  • Key components of the SLP’s role in acute care

ASHA CEUs / Continuing Education

  • This course is 2.25 hours long (2.25 PDH / professional development hours) and is registered for 0.2 ASHA CEUs. Partial credit is not offered.

What SLPs are saying about the course:

"Brooke provided critical thinking skills and she has given me more tools in my toolbox to think about during my next acute care shift! "

"Must take for new acute care SLPs!"

"I needed a refresher to be able to update my teaching knowledge for the acute care setting!

This was perfect in marrying my previous experience with today's healthcare world."
