Course Summary

SLPs can care for patients requiring ventilator support in a variety of settings, from ICU to home.

This live webinar, taught by a respiratory therapist, informs SLPs of key concepts of mechanical ventilation in order to help you create better-informed care plans for medically-complex patients.

After this course, you'll be able to:

  • Define basic respiratory terms 
  • Identify the difference between NIV and MV (noninvasive and mechanical ventilation)
  • Explain the purpose of mechanical ventilation 
  • Describe indications of mechanical ventilation, basic terms and concepts 
  • Differentiate between various ventilator modes and settings 

The Presenter

Deepika Malhotra BS, RRT is a respiratory therapist with 20 years of clinical experience. She has provided care in a variety of settings including critical care, general hospital floor care, pulmonary function testing (PFT), interventional pulmonology, and home care.  

Most recently, Deepika has shared her expertise as a hospital-based Respiratory Educator.
